Prof. Dr. Sigrid Ruby is a full professor of Art History with a focus on Modern and Contemporary Art History at Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen. She also holds leadership roles including Principal Investigator in the CRC 138 subproject C03 ('The House as Security and Gender (In-)Security') and membership in several academic committees and editorial boards.
Her academic journey includes professorships at Universität des Saarlandes, University of Vienna, and LMU München, alongside a Habilitation (2007) and PhD (1998) from University of Bonn. Research interests span French Renaissance court art, post-1945 US/European art, gender studies, and art ecology. Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, evident in collaborative projects like the traveling exhibition 'Made in Hessen. Globale Industriegeschichten'.
Publications emphasize cultural history intersections, including edited volumes on security studies, gender, and portraiture. She actively contributes to academic governance as Deputy Women's and Gender Equality Officer at JLU and member of the Fachbereichsrat.
