Oliver Hegedüs is a Researcher at Justus Liebig University Giessen, affiliated with the Collaborative Research Center/TRR 138 "Dynamics of Security" (subproject B03: Denominational Minorities) from February 2018 to 2021. He completed his PhD in History at the same institution with a dissertation on the securitization of Catholic and Orthodox minorities in Poland-Lithuania during the late 18th century.
His academic background includes:
- MA in History (2014-2016) at Justus Liebig University Giessen; Thesis: "Die Memoria des Hauses Dönhoff im 18. Jahrhundert"
- BA in History and Journalism (2010-2014) at Justus Liebig University Giessen; Thesis: "Der kurländische Adel und Restitution des Herzogs Ernst Johann von Biron"
- Semester abroad (2013) at Belarusian State University, Faculty of International Relations
- Apprenticeship (1996-1999) as a stonemason and stone sculptor
Hegedüs specializes in nobility history, ceremonial practices, and Baltic regional dynamics. His work examines the Dönhoff family, Warsaw court culture circa 1600 (focusing on Ursula Meyerin's correspondence), and religious minority securitization in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. This research bridges diplomatic, religious, and cultural history within early modern Eastern Europe.
His publications analyze historical security discourses: the 2021 article investigates intervention/protection mechanisms using Thorn as a case study, while the 2019 work explores Courland's security debates following Duke Ernst Johann von Biron's restitution. These studies reveal intersections of minority protection, state reputation, and security in Enlightenment-era Baltic and Commonwealth contexts.
No student advisement or grant activities are documented. Hegedüs contributed to the CRC/TRR 138 research collective, specifically subproject B03 on confessional minorities in historical security frameworks.
