Sigrid Hirbodian is a Professor and Director of the Institute for Historical Regional Studies and Historical Auxiliary Sciences at the University of Tübingen's Faculty of Humanities (Department of History). Previously, she was Professor of Medieval History at the University of Trier (2006–2011) and held research positions at the University of Mainz. She earned her PhD (1992) and Habilitation (2002) from Mainz, specializing in History and German Studies.
Her research explores medieval and early modern socio-religious dynamics, with emphases on:
- Gender and power in monastic communities (nuns, beguines)
- Rural/urban legal systems and territorial governance
- Nobility, economic structures, and regional identity in southwest Germany
Her recent publications (2020–2024) cluster around religious women's agency, monastic reforms, and regional socioeconomic transformations. She frequently employs comparative frameworks to analyze gender, power, and institutional adaptation in transitional historical periods.
