Dr. Clausen's research spans five interconnected domains: (1) Wellbeing and democratic living in early childhood curricula policies through international OECD-aligned studies; (2) Professional identity formation and development of early childhood educators; (3) Outdoor play and environmental education for holistic child development; (4) Quality assurance systems in early childhood settings; and (5) Comparative analysis of English and Danish early years frameworks. Her methodology emphasizes collaborative inquiry with practitioners and policymakers.
Recent publications (2018-2024) demonstrate consistent focus on wellbeing assessment frameworks, democratic participation models, and professional competency development across 12 research outputs. International comparative work features prominently, particularly through projects involving Denmark, England, China, Colombia, and Portugal within the OECD Early Learning Study context.
She actively collaborates on externally funded research initiatives including the Froebel Trust-supported study on baseline assessment implementation (2014-2015) and the international wellbeing project (2018-2019). As former Vice Chair for Professional Issues (2016-2023) and current Strategy Group member of the Early Childhood Studies Degree Network, she shapes national curriculum standards and graduate competencies.
Current development focuses on international partnerships examining outdoor play pedagogies and sustainability frameworks within early childhood quality assurance systems, building upon her established expertise in democratic curriculum implementation and professional identity formation.
