Siegfried Schobesberger is a Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry at the University of Eastern Finland's Department of Technical Physics (Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology). He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Helsinki (2014) and has held tenure-track positions as Assistant Professor (2017–2019) and Associate Professor (2020–2023) before his current role since 2024. His research focuses on atmospheric aerosol chemistry, particle nucleation, and air-surface exchange processes, using advanced mass spectrometry and micrometeorological techniques.
Key roles include leading the Aerosol Physics Research Group and teaching courses on atmospheric chemistry and aerosol physics. He has conducted extensive studies on organic aerosol properties, new particle formation mechanisms, and the vertical distribution of atmospheric processes. His work integrates field observations, laboratory experiments, and computational modeling to address gaps in understanding upper atmospheric chemistry. Notable contributions include studies on iodine oxoacid effects on nucleation and ammonia's role in particle formation.
Schobesberger has received the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellowship (2016). His research spans interdisciplinary collaborations in physics, chemistry, and environmental science, emphasizing aerosol dynamics' role in climate and air quality. Future interests include airborne observations to study upper atmospheric phenomena.
