Sidsel Roalkvam is a Professor and Centre Director at the Centre for Development and the Environment (SUM) at the University of Oslo, with a focus on Global Health, Maternal and Child Health, and the interplay between Religion and illness. Her work spans HIV/AIDS, health governance, and gender politics in South Asian and African contexts, particularly India.

Her research examines how health policies intersect with local practices, including studies on immunization coverage, maternal care systems, and pandemic responses. She has led interdisciplinary projects like SUM-Medic and contributes to theoretical debates in Anthropology and Development Studies.
Notable collaborations include the Public Health Foundation of India, Delhi School of Economics, and Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI). Her recent work investigates industrial meat production in the "pandemic era" (2025 projects).
