Siddhartha Bandyopadhyay

Siddhartha Bandyopadhyay is a Professor of Economics at the University of Birmingham, affiliated with the Birmingham Business School and the Department of Economics. He serves as Director of the Police & Crime Centre and Theme Lead for the 21st Century Transnational Crime Theme at the Institute for Global Innovation.

His research spans political economy, economics of crime, and policy evaluation, using game theory and econometrics to analyze criminal behavior, policing strategies, and socioeconomic impacts of crime prevention. Recent work examines health outcomes of domestic abuse, cost-benefit analyses of police interventions, and resource allocation effects on violence against women.

From 2022–2025, his publications focus on PTSD economic burden, child abuse health impacts, domestic violence interventions, and knife crime health outcomes. These integrate public health economics, criminal justice policy, and interdisciplinary methodologies.

He leads externally funded projects totaling £3 million+, including the Police Knowledge Fund (HEFCE/Home Office) and Norfolk & Suffolk Constabulary initiatives.
