Siddharth Kara is a British Academy Global Professor and Associate Professor of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery at the University of Nottingham's Rights Lab, specializing in research on modern slavery, human trafficking, and child labor. With 22 years of field research across over 50 countries, he has authored seminal books including Sex Trafficking: Inside the Business of Modern Slavery (2009), Bonded Labor: Tackling the System of Slavery in South Asia (2012), and Modern Slavery: A Global Perspective (2017).
His current research focuses on slavery and child labor in cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, examining prevalence, supply chain tracing, and public health/environmental impacts. He advises multiple UN agencies and governments on anti-slavery policy and law, and adapted his first book into the Hollywood film Trafficked.
