Faiza Zafar serves as a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham's Rights Lab, holding dual roles as Lead in Social Accounting and contributor to critical research programmes:
- Measurement and Geographies Programme: Leading research on bonded labour prevalence in India, with emphasis on global supply chains and associated business risks
- Business and Economies Programme (previous): Conducted procurement data analysis for Nottingham City Council and assessed supply chain governance in UK U&I sectors
Her academic foundation includes a PhD from the University of Nottingham Business School focused on corporate transparency for modern slavery in the UK, and a Master's in International Finance and Investment. Both degrees employed quantitative modelling as the core research methodology.
Research interests center on social accounting frameworks and accountability mechanisms to combat modern slavery. She specializes in applying advanced econometric techniques to large panel datasets using Stata and Python, with particular focus on supply chain ethics and transparency metrics. Her work bridges academic research with practical business risk assessment in forced labor contexts.
Current research is funded through a project measuring bonded labour in India's key supply chains. While no formal advisees are documented, her role involves collaborative work with public sector entities like Nottingham City Council and cross-institutional teams within the Rights Lab.
As a core member of the Rights Lab - one of the University's Beacons of Excellence - she contributes to interdisciplinary teams developing data-driven tools for modern slavery measurement. Her work integrates geospatial analysis with business practices research to create actionable insights for policymakers and corporations.
