Assoc Prof Shyama Ratnasiri is an Associate Professor in Economics at Griffith University's Department of Accounting, Finance, and Economics. She holds a BSc (Honours) in Agriculture, MSc in Agricultural Economics, and PhD in Economics. Since 2018, she has served as Head of the Economics Discipline and Higher Degree Research Director. Her research focuses on macroeconomic modeling, climate-smart agriculture, poverty and food security in developing nations, energy markets, and Australian macroeconomics. She has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles in journals like PlosOne and the Journal of Economic Inequality.
Educations: BSc (Honours) in Agriculture (University of Peradeniya), MSc in Agricultural Economics (University of Peradeniya), PhD in Economics (Queensland University of Technology), and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (Griffith University).
Research interests include:
- Macroeconomic modeling of technology adoption and economic growth
- Agriculture and climate change adaptation
- Energy poverty and policy analysis
- Socio-economic development in Asia-Pacific
Recent articles highlight her work on climate disasters' impact on agribusiness, energy demand responses, and poverty measurement using calorie deprivation. She has secured over 12 grants totaling millions, including projects on climate-smart agriculture and energy poverty.
Awards include the 2009 Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award and 2011 Griffith University Teaching Citation. She supervises numerous PhD students in areas like climate adaptation and circular economy.
