Shuman Xie is a Postgraduate Research Student and Research Fellow at Durham University, affiliated with the Department of Sociology, Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing, and Institute for Medical Humanities. He joined Durham in 2022, following prior academic training in digital society and political science.
- Education: MSc in Digital Society (University of Edinburgh, 2020-2021), MA in Political Science (Kobe University, 2015-2017)
- Professional Background: 3 years as IT specialist at IBM
His research focuses on digital ageing and older adults' use of social media, employing mixed research methods that combine visual and computational approaches to analyze social media data. He is part of the Health and Social Theory Research Group and supervised by Professor Tiago Moreira and Dr Kimberly Jamie.
