Shumaila Tunio

Shumaila Tunio is a Professor of Microbiology at the University of Pikeville (UPIKE), where she teaches courses such as Medical Immunology, Medical Microbiology, and Techniques in Molecular Biology. Her academic background includes a BSc in Microbiology from Kuwait University's Faculty of Science, followed by an MSc and PhD in Medical Microbiology from Kuwait University's Faculty of Medicine. She completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Her research focuses on developing new diagnostics, drugs, and vaccines for tuberculosis, alongside educational and clinical research. Key areas include tuberculosis immunology, anti-TB drug pharmacokinetics, and advancements in mRNA and cancer immunotherapy vaccines. Her work has been published in journals such as International Journal of Mycobacteriology, Pharmaceutics, and Vaccines.
