Professor Shreyes N. Melkote is the Interim Eugene C. Gwaltney, Jr. School Chair and Morris M. Bryan, Jr. Professor in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also serves as Associate Director of the Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute (GTMI) and Executive Director of the Novelis Innovation Hub. Since joining Georgia Tech in 1995, he has built a distinguished career in advanced manufacturing and tribology.

- Precision Manufacturing: Investigating surface generation mechanisms and process-structure-property relationships in material removal processes.
- Hybrid Manufacturing: Developing novel surface modification techniques like water cavitation peening for aerospace and biomedical applications.
- AI/ML in Manufacturing: Using data-driven methods to extract expert-level process capability knowledge.
- Robotics for Manufacturing: Enhancing industrial robot performance through advanced sensing and control strategies.
Research Impact
With over 300 peer-reviewed publications, his recent work emphasizes additive manufacturing post-processing, AI-enabled manufacturability analysis, and robotic machining stability. His research consistently bridges fundamental science with industrial application, supported by federal, industry, and internal funding.
