Shova Thapa Karki is an Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship and Sustainability within the Strategy and Marketing group at the University of Sussex Business School. She has been a core faculty member in the Business and Management department since 2010 and holds a PhD in Ecological Economics from SPRU at the University of Sussex and an MSc from the University of Leeds. Her academic leadership roles include Education and Students Lead (2019–2022), Deputy Director of Student Experience, and Visting and Exchange Lead.

Her research lies at the nexus of environment, business, and development, with a focus on:
- Circular economy and SMEs in city regions

Analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent focus on sustainability transitions, with strong emphasis on gender, informal economies, food systems, and circular economy practices. Her work combines qualitative and policy-relevant research, often in collaboration with partners in the UK and South Asia.

Shova has secured multiple research grants from DFID, ESRC, and the Higher Education Innovation Fund. She is actively involved in public engagement, policy advisory roles (e.g., Brighton and Hove City Council’s Circular Economy Oversight Board), and knowledge exchange with community organizations such as The Real Junk Food Project Brighton and SCDA.
She leads or contributes to interdisciplinary research initiatives such as the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme and collaborates with scholars in Life Sciences, IDS, and Global Studies. Her teaching includes modules on circular economy, entrepreneurship, and sustainability at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
