Dr. Shona Nelson serves as Senior Lecturer in Microbiology and Programme Leader for Biological Sciences at the University of the West of England's School of Applied Sciences. She teaches across Biomedical Science and Biological Sciences programmes and has coordinated summer internships since 2015.
Her academic foundation includes a BSc in Microbiology from the University of Aberdeen and PhD from Aston University, followed by postdoctoral research at Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester.
Research specialization centers on in vitro modeling of mono- and dual-species bacterial biofilms, with advanced application of self-bioluminescent bacterial biosensors. Her work extends to probiotic bacteria interactions within cell culture systems, demonstrating interdisciplinary methodology in microbial analysis.
