Shixiang Jin is a Lecturer in the History of Science at the University of Science and Technology Beijing. He holds a PhD from Peking University (2015), with a dissertation focusing on Roger Bacon’s Perspectiva and its relationship to natural philosophy. As a member of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science’s Research Group “Experience in the Premodern Sciences of Soul & Body,” Jin investigates the historical transformation of Aristotelian psychology within Chinese Jesuit scientific practices (1583–1683).
His research interests include the Aristotelian theory of perception, its historical evolution, and comparative East-West epistemological frameworks. Jin’s current project examines how Jesuit science of soul and body was modified during translation and adaptation in China, exploring whether Chinese scholars consciously or unconsciously integrated Aristotelian psychology and empirical methods into their natural investigations.
