Daiwie Fu is a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) in Berlin, where he leads the Research Group China in the Global System of Science. His work intersects the history and philosophy of science, gender studies, and the history of medicine in modern Taiwan and China.
His research focuses on the global dimensions of Chinese science, particularly through the lens of premodern texts like Meng-Xi Bitan (Pen Talks from the Dream Brook), as well as interdisciplinary approaches to Science and Technology Studies (STS), controversy studies, and practical knowledge systems. He has authored the book Assembling the New Body: Gender/Sexuality, Medicine, and Modern Taiwan (2005, Chinese edition).
At MPIWG, Fu’s project The Emergence and Construction of British SSK in its First Two Decades: East Asian Perspective explores the transnational influences on the development of the sociology of scientific knowledge. His scholarship emphasizes cross-cultural and transnational perspectives in the history of science.
