Shixia Huang, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Biology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). She serves as Director of the Antibody-Based Proteomics Core at BCM's Advanced Technology Cores and leads the Biotechnology Research Incubator for Teachers and Students (BRITE) program. Her roles also include Faculty Senator and Member of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center. Huang holds a Ph.D. in Genetics from Michigan State University, with postdoctoral training at the National Cancer Institute and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Her research focuses on developing high-throughput antibody-based proteomic technologies for biomarker discovery, particularly targeting low-abundance regulatory proteins and their activation states (e.g., phosphorylation). She integrates these technologies into educational initiatives, such as NIH-funded BRITE programs for K-12 educators and students, and the Cancer Research Education Program (C-REP) for underrepresented minorities. Recent work emphasizes applications in metabolism and cancer research, leveraging reverse-phase protein array (RPPA) methodologies.
- Grants:
- NIH R25 SEPA Biotechnology Research Incubator for Teachers ($1.25M, 2024-2029)
- NIH P20 BCM/TSU CURED Cancer Education Program (2023-2027)
She is active in professional organizations, including the Human Proteome Organization and the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF). Her publications span proteomics, cancer biology, and educational outreach, emphasizing translational research and STEM equity.
