Shivani Sud is an Assistant Professor of Art History and Humanities at Reed College, affiliated with the Art Department within the Division of the Arts. She earned her PhD in the History of Art from the University of California, Berkeley in 2022. Her research focuses on South Asian art within global contexts, particularly examining painting, print, and photography in Rajasthan from 1780 to 1920. She has been supported by prestigious fellowships including the Social Science Research Council's IDRF, Fulbright-Nehru, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Her teaching emphasizes transnational frameworks, offering courses on environmental art histories, material culture, colonial visual cultures, Indian cinema, and museum studies. Her work challenges Eurocentric narratives by centering South Asian artistic production and its entanglements with global networks.
Shivani’s scholarly contributions include essays in Getty Research Journal, SmartHistory, and the British Library’s blog. Her current book project repositions Rajasthan’s art within broader imperial and transregional dialogues. She has also received grants from the American Institute of Indian Studies and the Met Museum to advance her research.
