Dr. Shivangi T. Kothari serves as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of Endoscopy in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She is a core member of the University of Rochester Medical Faculty Group (URMFG) and Accountable Health Partners (AHP), providing clinical services at the Konar Center for Digestive and Liver Disease and Surgery Center at Sawgrass.
Her educational foundation includes:
- Medical Degree: Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, India
- Internal Medicine Residency: Seton Hall University (2005-2007)
- Gastroenterology Fellowship: St Joseph's University Medical Center (2007-2010)
- Interventional Endoscopy Fellowship: Stanford University Medical Center (2011-2012)
Dr. Kothari maintains clinical expertise in advanced therapeutic procedures including interventional endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, Barrett's esophagus endotherapy, double balloon enteroscopy, and pancreatic-biliary disorder management. Her research program focuses on developing EUS FNA techniques, advancing endoscopic ablation therapies for Barrett's esophagus, and evaluating novel diagnostic/therapeutic devices for biliary and pancreatic conditions. As an active member of national GI societies, she serves on committees and peer-reviews for medical journals while maintaining a patient-centered practice philosophy.
Her significant scientific awards include:
- Multiple ACP presentation prizes (1st oral, 2nd poster for Gastric Sarcoidosis)
- Seton Hall University Research Colloquium awards (2nd and 3rd place)
- Early academic distinction in Biochemistry
In her leadership role as Associate Director of Endoscopy, Dr. Kothari oversees procedural standards and innovation across UR Medicine's endoscopy units while maintaining active clinical practice in Rochester and Brighton locations.
