Shirin Deylami is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Western Washington University, affiliated with the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Queer Studies, and Islamic Studies Programs. She earned her PhD from the University of Minnesota in 2008 and joined WWU that same year. Her research focuses on contemporary political theory, Islamic political thought, feminist and queer theory, and cultural politics. She is completing a book manuscript titled Westoxification: Islamic Makings of the West.

Her scholarship critically examines intersections of gender, sexuality, Islam, and Western cultural imperialism. She analyzes HBO's The Wire as a socio-political critique and investigates contemporary issues like IS propaganda's gendered rhetoric.
Her articles address topics ranging from postcolonial identity formations to the limits of secular rationality, blending theoretical rigor with cultural analysis. She has held editorial roles in political theory publications and contributed to interdisciplinary dialogues on globalization and decolonizing knowledge systems.
