Dr. Shireen Shehzad Bhamani is a Research Fellow in Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD in Health Science from Ghent University. Her work focuses on resilience, mental health, violence prevention, and gender equality, particularly in Pakistan. She has led over 17 years of teaching and research, including roles as Principal Investigator on grants funded by entities like DFID, CIHR, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Her research spans peer violence prevention, maternal health, and community engagement with underserved populations. Dr. Bhamani has published 45+ peer-reviewed articles and developed tools like the 'OpenSafe Motherhood' intervention. She actively participates in global initiatives such as the Paul Farmer Collaborative and the International Nurses & Midwives Day Conference.
Research interests include: mental wellbeing in marginalized communities, gender-based violence, and evidence-based public health interventions. Her recent work emphasizes culturally sensitive approaches to IPV reduction and improving maternal resilience through randomized controlled trials.
