Shiraz Maher is Senior Lecturer in Security Studies and Director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR) at King's College London. His research examines Islamist ideologies and non-state actors in Middle Eastern conflicts, with particular focus on jihadist movements.
His influential work explores the theological foundations of modern jihadism, including concepts of predestination in recruitment narratives. Field research includes interviews with Taliban, al-Qaeda, and ISIS members across conflict zones.
Authored the critically acclaimed book 'Salafi-Jihadism: The History of an Idea', recognized as Foreign Affairs magazine's book of the year. Provides expert testimony to parliamentary committees and advises security agencies on counterterrorism policy.
