Dr. Shinead Borkovic is a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at La Trobe University, where she serves as the First Year Coordinator of the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) program. She has been with La Trobe University since 2016 in various academic roles, progressing from Casual Academic to her current position as Senior Lecturer. Previously, she held a Lecturer position at Australian Catholic University from April 2021 to December 2021.
Dr. Borkovic completed her PhD in 2023 focusing on global professional identity development for occupational therapists. Her educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Occupational Therapy Practice, and Bachelor of Health Science with a major in Human Anatomy & Physiology, all from La Trobe University. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning.
Her research interests encompass Workforce development, recruitment and retention, Socially and culturally diverse occupational therapy practice, Professional identity development, and Sexuality and Gender-responsive practice. She has led curriculum redesign and strategic projects to decolonise allied health curriculum and has presented at national and international occupational therapy and education focused conferences.
Her scholarly work demonstrates a strong focus on women's health, particularly during matrescence and motherhood transitions, as well as global citizenship development in health professions education. Her 2025 publications reveal significant contributions to understanding feminist perspectives in women's health and therapeutic approaches for maternal wellbeing.
