Professor Shin Jeong-eun is a faculty member in the Department of Public Administration at Sejong University, specializing in competition law and digital platform regulation. Her research focuses on mergers and acquisitions in gaming and online platform sectors, with particular emphasis on market definition, consumer welfare, and regulatory implications of decisions by authorities like the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
Her primary research areas include Competition Law (mergers, market delineation), Online Platform Regulation (terms and conditions, labor market effects), and Constitutional Law. She investigates how gaming industry mergers (e.g., Microsoft-Blizzard) affect competition, challenges in defining digital markets, and platform terms' impact on consumer protection, combining legal analysis with economic insights.
Analysis of her 12 publications (2012-2023) reveals a clear shift toward digital market regulation since 2020. Recent work examines UK CMA decisions on major tech mergers, platform control mechanisms (Uber/Airbnb), and consumer protection enforcement. Her research consistently bridges legal doctrine and economic analysis to address regulatory challenges in rapidly evolving digital markets.
Professor Shin maintains a research laboratory at House 509 on Sejong University's campus, operating during Monday/Wednesday interview hours (3-5 PM by reservation). Her work demonstrates strong interdisciplinary integration of competition policy, platform economics, and legal enforcement mechanisms in both Korean and international contexts.
