Sherryl Bisgrove is an Associate Professor in Plant Cell & Developmental Biology at Simon Fraser University's Department of Biological Sciences. Her research focuses on understanding plant growth regulation via microtubule dynamics, particularly their role in root responses to mechanical cues and gravity. She leads a lab investigating +TIP proteins like EB1, which modulate root mechanosensing critical for soil penetration. Bisgrove holds a BSc from the University of Victoria, an MSc from Indiana University, and a PhD from the University of Utah.
Her work bridges plant cell biology with developmental processes, utilizing Arabidopsis and fucoid algae as model systems. Key areas include microtubule-mediated cell division, cytoskeletal roles in tip growth, and stress responses in plants. Recent studies explore drought resistance in hybrid poplars and ocean acidification impacts on algal development.
Bisgrove teaches BISC 327 Algal Biology and has published extensively on microtubule functions in plant tropisms and algal developmental biology. Her lab's discoveries about EB1's regulatory role in root mechanosensing have advanced understanding of plant adaptation to environmental challenges.
