Miranda Meents is a Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at Simon Fraser University. She holds a BSc (Honours) from the University of Lethbridge and a PhD from the University of British Columbia. Her research focuses on plant cell biology, particularly the cellular mechanisms underlying secondary cell wall biosynthesis and Golgi apparatus function in Arabidopsis and other plant systems.
Key research interests include the organization of xylan production in Golgi cisternae, cellulose synthase trafficking dynamics, and the role of secretory pathways in plant development. She has published extensively on topics such as Golgi structure-function relationships, auxin signaling in vascular patterning, and plant responses to environmental stresses like drought.
- Teaches undergraduate courses including BISC 102 (General Biology) and BISC 327 (Algal Biology).
- Active in mentoring students through lab-based research and course instruction.
- Collaborates with international teams on plant cell wall biology and developmental genetics.
Her work integrates live-cell imaging, proteomics, and genetic approaches to elucidate fundamental cellular processes in plants.
