Sherrie Tucker is a Professor of American Studies at the University of Kansas, specializing in jazz studies, gender theory, and cultural history. She holds a Ph.D. in History of Consciousness from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her work interrogates intersections of race, gender, and improvisation in music and culture, with notable publications including Dance Floor Democracy (2014) and Swing Shift (2000). She co-edits the American Studies journal and collaborates on initiatives like the AUMI research consortium, focusing on inclusive music technology. Her research bridges academia and practice through projects like the Melba Liston Research Collective and the International Institute of Critical Improvisation Studies.
