Dr. Sherine Obare is Vice Chancellor for Research and Engagement and Professor of Nanoscience at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Previously, she served as Dean of the UNCG NC A&T Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of South Carolina and completed postdoctoral work at Johns Hopkins University.
Her research spans environmental chemistry, nanotechnology, and engineering, focusing on:
- Nanoscale materials for environmental remediation and healthcare
- Contaminant detection systems
- Biomass conversion and alternative energy solutions
- Fate and toxicity of nanomaterials
She has secured over $20 million in grants from NSF, DoD, NIH, and other agencies. Under her leadership, she established:
- Innovative Collaborative Laboratory for Nanotechnologies (ICONS) with US Army
- Joint School's Institute for Research Technologies (recipient of 2022 Innovation Award)
