Sherine Elsawa is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, & Biomedical Sciences at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), affiliated with the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (COLSA). Her research focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms regulating GLI transcription factors in cancer, particularly Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM), and their roles in inflammation and tumor microenvironment dynamics.
Education:
- Ph.D., Biology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- M.S., Florida International University
- B.S., Alexandria University
Research Interests:
- Mechanisms of GLI proteins in B-cell malignancies
- Epigenetic regulation of WM and tumor microenvironment
- Role of cytokines in tumor immunity
- Therapeutic targeting of GLI pathways
Teaching: Courses include Immunology, Cell Biology, and Biomedical Ethics (e.g., BMS 730, BMCB 605). She mentors doctoral dissertation research and honors theses across multiple programs.
Key Research Themes:
- Identifying novel GLI target genes in the tumor microenvironment
- Characterizing epigenetic changes in WM
- Exploring GLI's role in inflammation and antibody secretion
Labs/Teams: Her lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying cancer progression, with a focus on GLI proteins and their interactions with immune cells and tumor microenvironments.
