- Bachelor of Arts, University of Sydney (1995)
Research centers on decolonizing period drama through screenwriting methodology, specifically addressing the near-total absence of non-white protagonists in historical film genres. Humphreys investigates how screenwriters can ethically integrate hidden histories of ethnicity within the British Empire, using Aboriginal Australian experiences in 1830s England as a case study. Their work confronts identity politics in screenwriting pedagogy while developing practical tools for creating substantive roles for actors of color in historical narratives.
Scientific Awards:
- Australian Bicentennial Scholarship (2018)
- King’s Global Research Grant (2018)
- Collaborative Learning in the Arts and Social Humanities (CLASH) Public Engagement Fellowship, AHRC (2015)
As a Knowledge Exchange Associate at King's Cultural Institute (2016-2018), they developed the 'History and Empire on Screen' workshop series connecting academic research with industry practice. Current projects include serving on the Raindance Web Fest Awards jury and contributing to Raising Films/BFI's CLOSR Development Scheme, demonstrating sustained engagement with both scholarly and creative film communities.
