Aleem Hossain is an Associate Professor in the Media Arts & Culture program at Occidental College, appointed in 2018. An award-winning screenwriter and film director, his fiction, documentary, and hybrid films have screened at major festivals including Beyond Fest, Fantastic Fest, and Comic-Con.
His educational background includes a B.A. from the University of Chicago and an M.F.A. from UCLA.
Prof. Hossain's research and creative practice centers on Film, Screenwriting, and Directing, with specialized focus on Science Fiction Film, Artificial Intelligence in Filmmaking, and Desi-Futurism. He pioneers experimental techniques in generative filmmaking, as demonstrated by his AI-generated short film Do Bangladroids Dream of Electric Tagore, and explores the intersection of technology and cinematic storytelling.
His notable scientific awards include:
- Best Film at Sci-Fi London for After We Leave
- Best Director at the Berlin Sci-Fi Festival for After We Leave
At Occidental College, Prof. Hossain teaches screenwriting and TV writing, directing, and film/media production in the department's new Media Production Classroom. He actively presents experimental work at academic conferences including UFVA and Visible Evidence.
