Dr Stephen Morgan is a Lecturer in Film Studies at King’s College London, part of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. He previously taught at the University of Bristol and Queen Mary University of London. His research focuses on settler national cinemas, Indigenous cinemas of Australia, Canada, and Aotearoa New Zealand, and postcolonial film histories. He is the author of the upcoming monograph Ealing Abroad: Post-War British Cinema, Settler Colonialism and Ealing Studios in Australia (2025), and has contributed to publications like the British Film Institute and The Conversation.
Teaching interests include film history, cultural history, and decolonial cinema studies. He co-curates the London Australian Film Society & Festival and has organized the Menzies Screening Series at King’s, exploring themes like Indigenous narratives and settler colonialism in cinema. His work bridges academia and public engagement, including film archiving and curation.
Notable events include the 2021 Menzies Screening series on Australia’s cultural memory and collaborations with institutions like the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. His research emphasizes decolonization and re-examining historical narratives in cinema.
