Shelley Harms is an Instructor II at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management. She joined in 2019 after 30 years at Mount Royal University. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes creating a fun, reflective environment to help students reach their potential. She holds a Master of Science in Pedagogy from the University of Calgary, focusing on decision-making in ice hockey, alongside multiple coaching certifications.
Her research interests include physical education pedagogy, sports coaching methodologies, and athlete development. Awards highlight her teaching excellence and coaching achievements, including recognition as Employee of the Year at Mount Royal University (2011) and Coach of the Year in women’s hockey (2001–02). She is actively involved in community programs like the Winnipeg Newcomers Sport Academy, overseeing skating initiatives and serving as a Learning Facilitator for Sport Manitoba.
Harms teaches courses such as Human Movement Principles, Developmental Games and Activities, and Philosophy of Physical Activity and Leisure. Her recreational activities include dog agility, hiking, and winter sports, reflecting her passion for active lifestyles.
