Dr. Shelagh Gallagher is the Director of Gifted and Talented Education at the University of North Texas, with a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She is a leading figure in gifted education, currently serving as President of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and previously as a U.S. delegate to the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children. Her work bridges research, policy, and practice in support of gifted youth.
Research Interests: Dr. Gallagher's scholarship focuses on equity in gifted education, creative expertise, developmental and personality attributes of gifted children, and gender disparities in mathematics. She is a pioneer in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum design for gifted learners, emphasizing critical thinking and real-world problem solving. Her research integrates psychological, educational, and sociocultural perspectives to advance inclusive practices.
Her publications explore the historical evolution of equity in gifted education and advocate for identifying and supporting underrepresented gifted populations.
