Sheila Boland Chira is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Undergraduate Writing Center at the University of Vermont's Department of English within the College of Arts and Sciences. She joined UVM in 1999 and specializes in American literary history, race and ethnicity in literature, American autobiography, and composition.
Education:
- M.A. in English from New York University (1994)
Research & Teaching: Her teaching focuses on courses such as Critical Approaches to Literature, Race and Ethnic Literary Studies, and Expository Writing. She emphasizes writing pedagogy, rooted in her experience with NYU's Expository Writing Program. Her work explores themes like the racialized self in literature and the evolution of American literary traditions, including the Western genre.
Roles & Leadership: Since 2018, she has led UVM’s Undergraduate Writing Center, fostering student writing support and academic excellence.
