Cassie Hemstrom

Cassie Hemstrom is a Continuing Lecturer and Program Assessment Coordinator in the University Writing Program at UC Davis. She teaches courses in Expository Writing, Business Writing, and Writing in the Health Sciences. Hemstrom holds a PhD in Literature from the University of Nevada, Reno, an MA in Literature from Boise State University, and a BA in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College, Santa Fe. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on composition pedagogy, identity theory, information literacy, and critical race theory.

Research Interests: Hemstrom explores community-based writing, rhetorical genre theory, information literacy integration, and the intersection of identity theory with critical race studies. She applies these frameworks to writing pedagogy and professional writing practices.

Professional Engagement: As Professional Writing Minor Internship Coordinator, Hemstrom connects students with career-aligned internships in professional writing, editing, and digital composition. She volunteers with Yolo County SPCA, contributing to animal welfare through grant writing and outreach.
