Dr. Shehla Arif is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering within the Samuel W. and Dolores E. Brenton School of Engineering at Mount Union. She holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University, an M.S. from Bucknell University, and a B.E. from the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore.
Her technical research includes:
- Fracture mechanics in complex fluids and soft matter
- Fluid dynamics applications in medical devices
- Clean energy solution development
Recent scholarship focuses significantly on engineering education reform, addressing:
- Social justice and equity in STEM education
- Pedagogical strategies for inclusive classrooms
- Sustainability education frameworks
Publications demonstrate dual expertise in physical mechanics and educational research, with earlier work on foam fracture mechanics and recent focus on systemic educational change.
