Dr. Chad Korach is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Samuel W. and Dolores E. Brenton School of Engineering at Mount Union. He holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University and B.S./M.S. degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology, all in mechanical engineering.
His research focuses on tribology, composite materials, and nanoscale systems, with emphasis on environmental durability of materials and biomedical applications. Notable projects include studying carbon nanotube-polymer composites, tooth enamel mechanics, and marine-exposed carbon fiber composites. He also explores innovative curricula in engineering education, including global competencies and interdisciplinary art-engineering courses.
Teaching emphasizes active learning and real-world connections through hands-on activities, case studies, and site visits. He prioritizes student success, particularly their transition to engineering careers post-graduation.
Academic contributions include over 50 publications on topics ranging from nanocomposite degradation to entrepreneurial education. He has collaborated with the U.S. Department of Defense and DOE National Laboratories, integrating industry challenges into academic research.
Labs and facilities: Directs engineering programs at Mount Union, emphasizing holistic education blending liberal arts with technical skills. Bracy Hall serves as a key academic and laboratory hub.
