Sheelagh McCracken

Professor Sheelagh McCracken specializes in Finance Law at the University of Sydney Law School. A Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law, she has co-authored the standard Australian text 'Everett & McCracken's Banking and Financial Institutions Law' for over 35 years, with its 10th edition forthcoming in 2025. Her research focuses on secured transactions law, particularly personal property securities regimes. McCracken teaches courses including Introduction to Property and Commercial Law, Secured Transactions in Commercial Law, and Fundamentals of Finance Law.

As UNIDROIT Correspondent for Australia and member of its Asian Transnational Law Centre Advisory Committee, she contributes to international commercial law development. Her publications analyze the intersection of banking law, property rights, and commercial practice, with recent work examining appellate interpretations of the Personal Property Securities Act and collateral arrangements. McCracken has extensive teaching experience across the Asia-Pacific region and has held visiting positions in Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo.
