Professor Sheela Agarwal is a distinguished academic serving as Associate Head of School for Research and Innovation at Plymouth Business School, part of the University of Plymouth's Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business. She also co-directs the Centre for Coastal Communities. Her research focuses on sustainable tourism, disaster management, heritage tourism, climate change, and coastal community development. She has supervised 18 PhD/MSc students, contributing to topics like tourism resilience, plastic pollution, and dark tourism.
Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, covering sustainable tourism, crisis management, and cultural tourism. Notable research contributions include analyzing English seaside resorts' economic challenges, coastal community revitalization, and post-pandemic tourism strategies. She actively engages in policy-oriented research addressing geographical inequalities and tourism safety.
