Albina Pashkevich is an Associate Professor in Tourism Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Nord University, Campus Levanger, where she teaches and conducts research. Her work focuses on sustainability and community-based development, particularly in peripheral coastal communities and post-mining landscapes.
- Current principal investigator for the Norwegian Research Council-funded project Sustainable Arctic Cruise Communities: from practice to governance (2020-2024).
- Geographical expertise spans the Circumpolar Arctic, including Canada, Europe, and Northwestern Russia, with additional work in Fennoscandia and Greenland.
Research Interests:
Albina explores the revitalization of post-industrial landscapes through cultural heritage tourism, indigenous tourism development, and digital representations of indigenous cultures. Her work bridges human geography, regional development, and dark tourism.
Teaching:
She contributes to Nord University’s one-year Geography program and three-year Bachelor program in Geography and Community Planning, emphasizing qualitative methods, human geography, and sustainable tourism practices.
Publications Overview:
Recent articles and chapters highlight intersections of dark tourism with Arctic traumascapes, stakeholder perceptions in UNESCO sites, and the role of industrial heritage in regional development. Collaborative works address Arctic cruise tourism’s socio-economic impacts and entrepreneurial resilience.
