Sheba Tejani is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of International Development at King's College London, part of the School of Global Affairs. She holds a PhD in Economics from The New School for Social Research, New York. Previously, she served as Assistant Professor at the New School’s Graduate Program in International Affairs and the University of Birmingham. Her research focuses on international trade, structural transformation in developing countries, gender dynamics in labour markets, and the political economy of India. She has consulted for UN agencies including UNCTAD, ILO, World Bank, UN Women, and UNDESA.
Key research areas include the distributional consequences of automation and technological upgrading on workers, global value chains, and gender segregation in industries. She was awarded a Senior Research Fellowship from the American Institute of Indian Studies to study India's political economy. She teaches courses like 'Global Labour and Development' and supervises PhD students researching global value chains, gender inequalities, and Indian development issues.
She is affiliated with King's research groups including Global Production, Finance and Labour; Global Capitalism, Power & Uneven Development; and Technology, Innovation, and Economic Development. These groups explore themes like global production networks, economic inequality, and critical approaches to capitalism.
