Shaylin Williams, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia’s First Year Engineering Center. Her work focuses on enhancing engineering education through research into student experiences, particularly first-year and summer bridge programs, and curriculum design. She holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Education from Mississippi State University, where her dissertation applied Self-Determination Theory to analyze student engagement and graduation plans. Her research interests include engineering identity development, communities of practice, and strategies to improve undergraduate program effectiveness.
Education background includes a master’s in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and undergraduate research in chemical engineering at the University of Mississippi. Courses taught include Engineering Foundations I (ENGR 1010) and Engineering Foundations II (ENGR 1020).
