He is the author of the award-winning monograph Liszt's Transcultural Modernism and the Hungarian-Gypsy Tradition (2011), which won the Alan Walker Prize in 2014. His work bridges music analysis, cultural theory, and historical context.
Dr. Loya’s recent publications span journals like the Journal of the American Musicological Society and Nineteenth-Century Music Review, and chapters in edited volumes such as Liszt in Context. His articles explore Liszt’s late styles, national identity, transcultural analysis, and the affective role of harmony.
