Shawn Charlton

Dr. Shawn Charlton is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), where he has served since January 2007. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of California, San Diego (Experimental Psychology) and a B.A. from Utah State University (Psychology, with a Spanish minor). His research focuses on enhancing undergraduate psychology education, integrating AI and technology into teaching, and creating flexible learning paths for non-traditional students. He teaches courses such as PSYC 1310, PSYC 4301/2, and PSYC 4354 (Judgment & Decision-Making).

His scholarly work spans behavioral psychology, decision-making processes, and cross-cultural research. Recent articles address pandemic impacts on psychology admissions, AI’s role in psychological literacy, and social discounting dynamics. Dr. Charlton’s interests also include curriculum design and bridging gaps between academic programs and workforce needs.

Outside academia, he enjoys reading fantasy/sci-fi, pickleball, and traveling. His research and teaching reflect a blend of interdisciplinary curiosity and practical innovation.
