Shawana Lachir is an Adjunct Professor and Postdoctoral Fellow in Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh's Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. Her work focuses on racial justice, criminal justice reform, and equitable policies. She holds a PhD in Public Policy from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), an MPP from UMBC, and a BS in Sociology and Law/Criminal Justice from Hood College.

Her research explores policing practices, legal cynicism among adolescents, and the impact of School Resource Officers. She applies quantitative methods using STATA and SPSS to analyze large datasets. Current projects include the Protest and Police Reform Project on Black Lives Matter mobilization and police reform implementation.
Professional contributions include performance analysis for Washington, DC's Mayor’s policies, program coordination for minority graduate placement initiatives, and cross-agency collaboration on legal reforms. She speaks Hausa fluently and has proficiency in ASL and French.
Key roles include supervising undergraduate researchers, managing ARPA-funded projects, and developing policy evaluations for urban equity initiatives.
