Dr Shauna Kearney is a Lecturer in Sport and Event Management and Course Leader for the MSc International Sport Management program at Birmingham City University. Originally from Co. Wexford, Ireland, she brings expertise in para-sport research and inclusive physical education to her academic roles.
- B.Sc. in Sports Science and Health from Dublin City University (2012)
- Erasmus Mundus Masters in Adapted Physical Activity (EMMAPA) from K.U. Leuven (Belgium)
- PhD from Coventry University examining ableism and marketplace inclusion in Paralympic Games
Her research focuses on socio-spatial theories of inclusion/exclusion in para-sport contexts, with particular emphasis on disability experiences in global sporting events like the 2012 UK and 2016 Brazil Paralympic Games. She employs intersectional frameworks to analyze how impairment types, gender, and ethnicity shape consumer wellbeing.
Shauna has gained professional experience through internships at the Agitos Foundation and International Paralympic Committee, followed by project coordination at the UNESCO Chair for Inclusive Physical Education in Ireland.
