Dr Andrea Faull-Brown serves as Principal Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the School of Sport and Exercise Science, University of Worcester. With over 15 years of elite-level experience, she has supported athletes at Olympic, Paralympic, and Commonwealth Games competitions, notably preparing the GB Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team for Rio 2016 across multiple Paralympic cycles from Beijing 2008 to Rio 2016.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Sport Psychology from Cardiff Metropolitan University (2010)
- MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology from Bangor University (2004)
- BSc (Joint Honours) in Sport Science and Psychology from Bangor University (2003)
Her research pioneers inclusive methodologies for para athletes, exemplified by the Wheelchair Imagery Ability Questionnaire (WIAQ)—the world's first wheelchair-specific imagery assessment tool. This work bridges clinical rehabilitation and elite sport performance through cross-disciplinary innovation in psychological skills training for athletes with physical disabilities. Her scholarship emphasizes practical application in real-world competitive environments.
Publications reveal a sustained focus on developing validated instruments for underrepresented athlete populations, with the WIAQ establishing new frameworks for imagery research in adaptive sports. Current international translation efforts into nine languages demonstrate global applicability across sport psychology and rehabilitation contexts.
Professional recognition includes:
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
She actively mentors students while expanding course provision in sport psychology, integrating frontline Paralympic experience into teaching across Masters programmes in Applied Sport Psychology and Inclusive Sport. Her pedagogy emphasizes translating elite-performance insights into accessible educational frameworks.
Through international collaborations and invited lectures, she shapes global discourse on para athlete preparation, maintaining research partnerships that drive innovation in disability sport psychology from laboratory to podium.
