Shaun O'Donnell is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Materials Science at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), focusing on synthesis, characterization, and processing of nitride magnets using solid-state techniques and low-melting metal eutectics. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Colorado State University (2023) and a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at North Carolina State University (2017–2022).
- Bachelor's Degree: Chemistry, Clemson University
- PhD: Chemistry, North Carolina State University
His research spans solid-state synthesis, magnetic materials, semiconductors, and inorganic materials. Key trends include exploring nitride compounds for magnet applications and their structural/magnetic properties, leveraging ion exchange for metastable phases, and studying chalcogenides with second-harmonic generation.
Notable scientific recognition includes the NCSU Chemistry Bereman Family Award for Excellence in Teaching (2020). He has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in Journal of Alloys and Compounds and Chemistry of Materials, with a focus on nitride magnet processing and crystal engineering. His current work at NREL addresses advanced materials for energy-efficient technologies.
